What About Me?

headshotHello and welcome to Chris Barnett’s running diary.

Chris has been road running since 1997 (on and off!) but only began to take it more seriously around 2004 when he entered a local 10km race.

In 2005 and many 10k road races later Chris decided that it was time to set himself a real challenge and entered the ballot for the 2006 London Marathon. This departure from “running a few miles” to running long distance became a fairly permanent feature of Chris’s running career from then on.

Although unsuccessful in the 2006 ballot Chris made it through the ballot for 2007 and 2008 London Marathon’s (actually he got into 2007 through the additional Bequeath Draw) and decided to run both in aid of charity. He ran the 2007 in aid of McMillan and in memory of David Barnett who died in 2006, and the 2008 marathon in aid of The Paul Ackrill Fund and in memory of Gareth Horton who died in 2007.

Chris joined Stourbridge Running Club in 2007 with the intention of improving and augmenting his marathon training. This was another turning point in Chris’s running career and marked a move to more strategic training and attention to technical details.

This year, 2009, has been a big year in terms of the sheer number of races run and a new direction taken in running cross country events which fills Chris’s running diary for the remainder of 2009.

Chris’s goals for 2010 include another a kilomathon, a marathon and the JW Ultra!
